The process was not long, it took a little over 2 weeks. Applied online, next day was invited to partake in a phone interview scheduled 10 days later. After phone interview, a day later was invited to an in-person scheduled another 10 days later. This particular school location is located in a rough part of the Bronx, very congested, surrounded by project housing. Though a charter school, the school looks like a public school inside and out. I was told in my interview email confirmation a week prior to my interview that I would be given a tour and some time to ask questions etc prior to do my mock lesson. That was not the case when I arrived. I came in the building immediately had to put my bag down and was thrown right in the mock lesson and there was no tour of the school. After the lesson, I had an interview w/ recruiter, a teaching training/ development person and some higher up.
The interview overall was cold. The TD person first goes over your mock lesson letting you know what you did well and what you could improve. This part was fine but it wasn't comfortable, he was very straight to the point and straight face, no smiles even when telling you what things you did well. After that you get interrogated on what steps would take to do better on those things and you'd get asked over and over until it made clear sense to them to move on. From here the interview was turned over to the higher up. She had no personality, she was very cold, seemed disinterested and demeaning. Nothing I said made sense to her even when I was very clear. When it didn't make sense, you'd know it because she show in her face . The recruiter was just there, nodding head, smiling occasionally. Not sure why b/c it wasn't a comfortable process. While leaving, the room was quite you could hear a pen drop while they watched me gather my things. No "It was sooo nice meeting you." "Have a great trip" nothing. They sat, stern and quietly.
They called a few hours later, and shockingly offered me the position. I later declined.
