Single round interview with CTO and two senior devs, plus a technical test. The face to face interview with the CTO was enjoyable. Very smart lady, you can tell from a mile she knows her stuff. Can’t say the same about the other two devs, which they behaved like are some sort of ninja engineers and java was written by them and not James Gossling. They start by asking some questions about my CV etc then tons of stupid questions. One of them insisted nearly 10min on the heap dump and for some reason on any question after that was always going back to the heap dump and out of mem errors questions. Like he was obsessed by it. They question pretty much every answer I gave them (not because I was wrong or just they wanted to add something to it because it was incomplete) but just because to show me that “they’re awesome...” Simple example: They ask me about Spring Batch and threading so I start talking about the different modes of parallel processing: single process, multi-threaded and multi-process and the simplest way to implement a parallel processing by using the TaskExecutor in your Step configuration - and the guy reading “questions from his A4 sheet of paper” dives again into the “heap dump” and asks again what if my job runs out of mem exception… Towards the end of the interview I literally wanted to walk out of the room. They were too unprofessional. The other guy was yawning and using phone most of the time, like he didn’t want to be there ! Pathetic. I am sure if I had asked those “ninja software dev” questions they'd be dumbfounded. I never heard back from them, probably they thought I was not good enough for them. I am glad they did so, as shortly after I received two other offers, way more competitive and if they would have made me an offer I would have probably accepted (reason being location of their offices) and missed the other two.
