I had applied for an Underwriter position in November 2011 but never heard anything. Then a colleague of mine left and was hired as a Senior Underwriter for CRU. She apparently gave the personal lines manager my name when they had a need for an Underwriter several months later. He contacted me via email to ask if I was interested, and when I responded yes, we spoke by telephone later that day. We had a very good conversation where he told me about the company and the position, and we discussed my skill-set and experience. He was impressed and told me I would need to speak with his boss before we could go any further. We did have an issue regarding salary. He pushed for what my requirements are and although I tried to dodge it, he insisted. My range was too high for them. He asked me to speak to my colleague and get more information. I did that, and she informed me that the Senior position and the Underwriter position had much different pay scales. Because I was very interested in leaving my current company, I resolved myself to taking a pay cut so I emailed him to explain that I understood their needs and that I knew we could come to an agreement. The next communication was an email asking me for an interview with the UW Vice President at a specific time/date. I was very happy and confirmed the information. I rearranged my work schedule to provide me with time off for this interview, and the call never came. I called the UW manager to explain that I understand the VP probably got busy, and that I'd be happy to reschedule or even take the call at any time. I never received a response. In fact, after that voicemail, I followed with an email. Neither were ever returned and I never heard from the company again. It was rather disappointing but one can only be so persistent before becoming annoying so I let that one go. I still think they would be a great company to work for, but have not seen any openings come up.
