The interview was a phone call with 4 members (2 staff members and 2 interns) of the Events team from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Everyone was friendly and enthusiastic, but personally, I found the panel interview format intimidating and overwhelming. The flow of the interview felt scattered, I couldn't always tell who was speaking, and most questions were two-part, so it was a bit difficult to remember the full question and respond to both parts effectively.
They asked me to introduce myself, explain how I heard about the internship, share a strength and weakness, describe my learning style, and talk about a time I went above and beyond at an event. There was also one curveball question at the end, (example: if you were an animal, what kind would you be and why?). When asking the interviewers my questions toward the end of the call, they used the strategic silent treatment tactic to see if I would ramble. After asking them questions, they asked "is that it?". My advice is to be prepared with strong questions and don't let the silence make you feel like you're missing something. Be confident when they ask if you have anymore questions and don't feel like you need to come up with more questions.
The interview lasted about 25 minutes. I interviewed mid-week and was told I would hear back by the end of the week. I sent a follow-up/thank-you email 7 days later after not hearing back. The next day, I received a generic rejection email. I immediately replied and asked for feedback, but received an auto-reply that the interviewer was out of office for the next week—and I never heard back.
