      Entrevista para Security Engineer

      5 de nov. de 2011
      Candidato(a) sigiloso(a) à entrevista
      Nenhuma oferta
      Experiência positiva
Entrevista com nível médio de dificuldade

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me por meio de recrutador(a). O processo levou 1 dia. Fui entrevistado pela Cox Communications em set. de 2011

      Entrevista

The primary interview was on-site. I met with the other security engineer (technical), managers from other departments that would be affected by this role (operations), and the hiring manager (cultural fit). The technical interview was pretty straight forward. There were a few product specific questions that I could not answer as I had minimal exposure to the product (Crossbeam, F5 load balancers). There were a few network focused questions on Linux. There were questions on Checkpoint Firewalls. There were also a couple of scenario based questions related to security issues. I did well on this interview. He did bring up an spelling error that was on my resume. Apparently, someone on the recruiting team made some changes to my resume without discussing it with me. She misspelled HIPAA (ughh). I did not know about the changes until after the interview. I simply thanked him for bringing it to my attention and headed to the next office for the second interview. The operations interview was with the manager from the systems team. He asked a few questions about my roles with previous companies. He also asked a few simple questions about my experience as a Linux or Windows systems admin - nothing overly technical though. The hiring manager interview consisted of questions about my interactions customers and co-workers. We discussed my involvement in community activities. He outlined some of the outreach programs that COX sponsors. We discussed the career path for the position. "Where do you see yourself in x years?" "Describe how you handled a difficult employee?" I was asked about how I would handle an assignment that had specific instructions to do things a certain way even if you knew of a "better" way. He also asked that I provide one writing sample, for example - SOW, project plan, business case. All of the interviewers were very personable guys - the type of guys that you would consider inviting over for the family dinner on the holidays. The interviews were rather relaxed. I did not get the impression that they were there to trip anyone up. The hiring manager seemed like the type of manager that you would work WITH as opposed to for - definitely a players coach. The atmosphere was business casual. All of the COX employees that I encountered were very accommodating and hospitable - even the parking attendant. I could see why the shortest tenure there was around 17 years. The final part of the process was a personality test. The test was comprised of a series of multiple choice questions designed to quantify your dominant personality traits. The practitioner will also have you draft business correspondence to your boss in a fictional company. The practitioner will give you your preliminary results within a day or two. There is no universally right or wrong score. There were a few impromptu phone interviews with the hiring manager before and after the main interview as well. Ultimately, I was not offered the position. The recruiter said that it was due to the results of the personality test but would/could not elaborate.
