A recruiter sent me an email to apply. Ultimately, the entire interview process hinged on the salary question and had nothing to do with skills. Regardless of what we discussed, in the end, all they cared about was money. At the end of a 30 min call, I was asked to provide a salary requirement. I said I'd prefer to learn more about the job first. The recruiter said she "required" a salary in order to move forward. I suggested she share a range and I would let them know if it worked for me. She said she could not share the manager's budget. I said I'd get back to them and we end the call. I use a day or two to do research on Glassdoor, looking for job title and location. I also find an average salary for a similar job at another company owned by the parent company, IAC. All of this information is on Glassdoor. I send an email with my research about the salary range and the average salary. In their reply, they again ask for salary requirements for "this job". I'm honestly flabbergasted. My impression was that they are looking to hire the cheapest person possible and/or hold someone to a low-ball figure. Maybe they aren't making enough money to offer competitive wages to their staff. I doubt they provide competitive salaries, and I believe chances of gaining a raise are highly unlikely.
