Terrible, terrible experience. I received a solid offer from another company when I was just starting the interview process with Datadog, so I told them I was going to accept the offer and withdraw my application. The recruiter I was working with insisted that I extend the deadline with the other company, to complete the interview process with Datadog, because "they team is eager to get me". I have asked for an extension and went ahead with Datadog interviews. There were some regular interviews and a technical task. In the end, I got a verbal offer from Datadog and accepted it, because I kind of liked what the company does, plus I generally like new companies without all the legacy stuff, and their offer was good too. I was assured the written offer would be sent on Monday for me to sign, which is purely a formality.
Not only I didn't receive the offer on Monday, I also didn't receive it on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I had to repeatedly ask the other company to extend the offer deadline. Every evening I was getting an email from Datadog recruiters stating that "they will definitely send me a final answer tomorrow". They would neither say yes or no. In the end they called me and told me they don't want me because guess what? "We want someone with deep software engineering expertise". That was very awkward, because:
1) The specific security role itself had very little to do with software engineering in general, let alone "deep expertise"
2) I actually have pretty decent software engineering experience, and they could have learned it if they asked me a single coding related question. There was just one 'hello world' level of python scripting involved in the technical task I had to accomplish. It was also on my resume.
Very unprofessional recruiters, flawed interview process, bad overall experience. Lost a week, almost lost an offer that I had, and got that being used feeling.
