HE asked me to write a javascript function that would change the background color of a div to yellow and set rounded -corners. I DON'T KNOW THE SYNTAX FOR SETTING ROUNDED-CORNERS. He then asked me to write 2 CS functions. assuming there is a distributed cache layer. Add a widget to DB and get a widget back. I think I did pretty ok. Within 30 minutes I got a rejection email. TESTING FOR SYNTAX SKILLS FOR AN EXPEREINCED DEVELOPER, IS THE MOST STUPID WAY TO INTERVIEW IN MY OPINION.

Typical phone screening, then you go in to their office for a work day (yes 8 hours) and they have a predefined task that all interviewees do. The first part is about 6 hours, and about every 1.5 hours someone different pairs with you. It's treated as a normal pairing task, where the other person will help you out if you get stuck. The last part is about an hour, and it's a new task you do on your own. Though it was a long day, they take you out to lunch and talk to you (that's your behavioral interview I guess) it goes fast and you get a feel for what working there is like. I think it's a good process.
