I originally applied for an ELA position. I scheduled a phone interview, but did not receive a call. I heard back the next day saying that there had been an "emergency" and that I could reschedule. I rescheduled and had a 15-minute phone interview where I was asked if I could teach anything besides English. She said they needed social studies teachers, so I said I would enjoy teaching history (although I have no experience or expertise in this area). At the end of the phone call, I was asked if I could come in for an in-person demo in 2 days. I am not local, as they knew based on my application, so I said that I would not be able to come in that soon, and she told me she would send me some times for the following week and I could choose from those. I took off work for 3 days of the upcoming week and prepared to buy a plane ticket on my own dime because I was really interested in working for Democracy Prep. I sent a message after the phone interview to say thank you and that I was looking forward to hearing back about the available times for an in-person interview. I received no response, so I messaged again. Once again, I received no response. After the weekend, I messaged again, restating my interest and saying that I had taken work off to come up to New York (since I was informed I would have to do so), so I kindly requested that they let me know if they were still considering me as a candidate or not. Even after this message, I received no response or apology at all, a complete slap in the face, when the only confirmation I needed was a simple "We will be moving forward with other candidates, but thank you for your time." A one sentence response, after I sent MULTIPLE respectful and professional follow-up messages, would have taken 10 seconds to send and would have saved me a huge headache (and I probably wouldn't have bothered making a review). The complete disregard for my time and effort was disrespectful and unprofessional.
Frankly, I should have taken the employee reviews more seriously before applying, but I was truly very passionate about the school's mission and eager to try out teaching history.
