I was called within 24hrs of submitting my resume via my college’s job portal. The caller was pleasant to talk to and we set up an in-person interview in their office in Bethesda. Caller also asked me to take some online quizzes in Word and Excel. The Word quiz was easy enough, but the Excel quiz was kind of annoying in that there was a very specific way they wanted you to accomplish to tasks, and if you had an alternative method to accomplish the same task, you weren’t given credit.
The interview process was about 90min long in total, including the actual interview itself followed up by a handful of basic tasks involving writing and reading comprehension. The interview was easy and was more or less a background check of previous experience and the interviewer being very proud of a very high hire rate for temp-to-hire employees from their company.
I scored very well in everything except for the Excel test, and they seemed to wonder why that score was so much lower than the others.
Turns out that the research position I applied for had already been filled/ended, and that I was basically just being added to their portfolio of temps. Despite being very dissatisfied with that, I kept in contact and they were able to find me a different mathematics related position a few days later.
