      Entrevista para Project Manager

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 3 semanas. Fui entrevistado pela Epic em dez. de 2024

      Entrevista

I was originally recruited by someone from Epic for the Project Manager role. I applied to another position but didn't get it, so I ultimately reapplied for the Project Manager role. After that, I was asked to complete an assessment and a personality test. I'm not sure how I did, and honestly don’t think the assessment, which lasted about three hours, is really relevant to the job.During the process, I was also given a role overview presentation on Zoom. There were other people on the call, and while the presenters provided an overview of the company, they were only able to answer two questions. Later, I was emailed saying I wasn’t chosen for the Project Manager role, but I was asked to participate in a final interview for other roles. There would be role overviews during that final interview, which made it difficult for me to prepare my questions or answers since I didn’t have a lot of information about the roles. The final interview included another company overview, a software tutorial, the role overviews, a case study (which was kind of like a day-in-the-life scenario regarding how I would manage my schedule), a 10-minute presentation (where I had to give a speech since slideshows were not allowed), and a one-on-one session with a recruiter assigned to me (not my initial recruiter). The final interview lasted about four hours. Ultimately, I was not offered a role after the final interview. I had a lot of questions that were left unanswered. I wanted to know why one role seemed like a good fit while another did not, which I was told by the recruiter at the end of the interview that she did not know. I asked the person giving me the case study how I was doing.  She couldn't tell me what they were looking for (answer-wise) at the end, but I was told that they found me very logical and thought I managed my time well. I thought this would positively impact my chances for the job. I can't tell if that was a lie or if I truly didn’t perform well. If I did well in that section, which could indicate I would succeed in the role, then were my answers in the one-on-one interview bad or was something else wrong? Were their questions and answers more important for assessing my work style than the results from the case study? During the final interview, I was not asked many questions relevant to the roles; most questions revolved around relocating to Wisconsin, exploring other job opportunities, and which position I preferred. I expected more behavioral and situational questions relevant to the role but didn’t receive those. Reflecting on this, was that a signal that I wasn’t truly being considered for the position? When asked about other opportunities, I was honest and told them that I did have a few offers and was waiting to hear back from other companies. I hoped to hear from them soon so I could make an informed decision, as I didn't want to lead anyone on. I'm not sure if that was a good choice or if it factored into my rejection. The application process is somewhat inefficient and kind of long, despite a somewhat quick turnaround at each stage. There were many unknowns left after this whole process. Perhaps it depends on the recruiter you encounter or just luck in determining who gets hired to a certain extent. While I know that experience is a factor, I’d like to believe that if my experience were the primary issue, I wouldn’t have advanced as far as I did, especially since they mostly hire college grads.I specifically asked for feedback from the person I interviewed with last, but they stated they couldn't provide any due to "confidentiality." I realize that giving feedback can be challenging, but not everyone asks for it. After investing hours in preparing for the interviews and assessments with Epic, it would have taken minimal effort for them to review their notes (notes they took during the case study and interview) and share at least one thing they found lacking in my application (something lacking in my own qualifications or answers would not be confidential to their business or others). Although I saw reviews prior to applying, I decided to take my chances. I recognize that I may not have been the best candidate, but it would have been helpful to learn from the experience instead of receiving no feedback at all. While the job and the process could be great for those who are a better fit, it’s clear that I am not. It can be difficult to understand the hiring process when the candidates who are selected don’t appear significantly different from those who are not especially just based on review sites. Without any feedback provided, it’s challenging to know what the hiring team is looking for, making it hard to decide whether to invest the time or not. Hopefully, my experience and review can help someone thinking about applying. My advice: make sure you really want the job before spending multiple hours on the whole process.

The process is very intense. Three or more hours of explanation, exams, and a presentation I had to create. The exams were both logic games and a personality test. I was preparing for weeks.

Not invested in who they're hiring if they rely heavily on multiple assessments for applicants to take (personality quiz, etc). These are unpaid and take hours. A poor use of time.
