We are sorry you left the interview feeling we were anything other than professional and empathetic in what is typically a very stressful situation - interviewing. It is unfortunate that some development environments do not satisfy the minimum requirements for connecting to a local containerised database. We now ensure that Developer's development environments meet the minimum requirement of a Linux-based terminal (MacOS, WSL2, Ubuntu etc). Whilst a working version of the exercise is the goal, Developers are measured on the time spent collaborating with their pair. This gives tremendous insight into how the Developer approaches challenges, works with others, and develops software day-to-day. We really want Developers to succeed in the pairing exercise and we provide support and encouragement throughout. Whilst we try to speak slowly and clearly throughout the interview, inevitably there will be times when there's a breakdown in communication and understanding, which may result in a perceived insult that did not occur.
