My most uncomfortable situation with one of my suppliers was with a small government vendor. They were assigned to provide enough manuals for a required class that I was assigned as the trainer. It was too late to cancel the class or to reschedule it, therefore an alternate solution was necessary. With 35+ students in the credited course, the only solution I had, was to encourage collaboration among the students and not call it "cheating." Instead of handing out the final test at the end of the course to be graded, I handed them out at the beginning of the test section and again encouraged the participants to work as a team to find a solution to the presented problem on the delivered test. Each team would select their team speaker and deliver their solution to the entire class, with the entire class reviewing that solution and making comment. The major rule to this alternative was NO NEGATIVE RESPONSES or comments. Positive teamwork only.

Finally, After a final review of the invoice and delivery of the manuals, I discussed on behalf of our company, the alternate options to maintain this small vendor relationship, we accepted credit for future products, with shipping costs, be the responsibility of the vendor. We would be sending changes or additions to this contract with the vendor to be reviewed by their purchasing department and signed approval of acceptance on behalf of their company, our purchase and supply department reviewed and accepted the changes to this contract. A very long, but necessary process to prevent any further challenges.
