Note: This is a Toronto, Canada FDM interview. Other locations may differ. Phone Interview: Simple questions, soft skills, yes/no questions. Very straight forwards, usually just meant to probe you. If you are at all interested and have experience in the field this should be an easy pass. Assessment Day: Full day, starts at 9:00am, goes until 3:00pm. Arrive early (~8:45am), dress business professional. You are placed in a room with other candidates. HR briefs you on the expected salary/benefits, and answers any questions. There is a 20 minute math test (Read below for details). Then the group was given 8-10 hard, logic based questions to solve (Not assessed from what I could tell). During that time you are taken in pairs to do interviews. They are quick and 7-10 minutes each. There is two, one for soft skills and the other is technical. Once everyone is finished a quick pizza lunch was served. After the lunch there are two more tests, each 50 minutes long. One logical based test, the other is a test where they hand you a booklet with information on a potentially new subject, you are then given questions to answer based on what you've learned. Once both tests are done the day ends. In a few days you are emailed with a result (pass/fail). Math Test - Simple arithmetic, decimal division/multiplication, percentile, high school stuff. (Up to grade 10). Nothing challenging, no derivatives, no integrals etc... Logic Test - Think LSATs logic test, they took some questions from there. Not hard, but you still need a brain to do the questions. Don't stress, don't overthink, slowly read over longer and more convoluted questions that have many parts. "Comprehension Test" - In this case is was about Set Notation. You go through a booklet to understand what is Set Notation, you are then given questions based on what you read. Again not hard, based around logic and comprehension. None of the tests were stupidly challenging. Some questions are harder than others, and you do need to possess some level of intelligence. As for the interviews, the soft skill one is more of a behavior analysis. Just to make sure there isn't anything wrong with you. The technical one depends on what you take. Java Development or Production Support. Both of these interviews are basic knowledge interviews. They will train you they just want to see that you have some very basic knowledge. Don't over study for this. You don't need any algorithms, you won't need to write out how to get a user inputted string to print out backwards. Nothing like that. Think basic fundamentals: "What is OOP" "What is a class" "What is the difference in between X and Y". Remember they have 7 minutes to ask you questions don't expect them to have complex answers. Overall it's a fun experience and even if you are "skeptical" and heard bad reviews I encourage those who are having difficulties finding a permanent job to take FDM into consideration.

Got a introduction call from fdm, asking about myself and the company. Got another call within a week to set up phone interview. The interviewer seemed tired (interview in morning) and asked liner questions which made it a bit difficult to answer using the S.T.A.R. Method.
