I recently interviewed with Foster Children Safe Haven. I was incredibly impressed with the company and the work they do. The social worker supervisor was very kind and professional.
I received a call from the secretary with an offer several days later and was truly excited for the job. The secretary asked if I could come in to get the paperwork and fingerprinting done. I asked her if their was an offer letter that would be provided first so I could review salary, benefits, job responsibility etc. This information was only briefly reviewed during the interview. The secretary was unsure and forwarded me to the social worker supervisor who interviewed me, she then forwarded me to another person (she mentioned she was in administration?) who was also present at the interview.
I asked her if the the company would provide an offer letter for me to review. She went on to say that the company does not provide an offer letter. I asked if the offer could be sent to me in a summary, in bullet points, or in any some sort of written form for my review before officially accepting. Or, considering the previous personel mentioned she would be busy in the coming days, I also asked if I could come in to review the offer.
She said if I had any questions about the position, I could ask just ask her. Sooo, as I had written a few things down regarding the position. I asked her then and there over the phone.
I asked regarding the salary ($42,000) which was non-negotiable, 401k, health insurance benefits, sick days, vacation days, phone, computer.
I was incredibly discouraged by the end of the conversation. I could not get a clear response about many of the benefits. She made vague statements regarding health insurance, sick and vacation days, saying "i think....". She stated that all of the benefits information is listed and available in the company handbook but, that was only for hired employees.
At that moment, I absolutely knew I would not take the job being offered. How could I accept a job without knowing clearly what was being offered to me? Where not even the hiring personel could list the company's benefits.
I told the lady that I would be thinking it over and reviewing the job proposal and calling her by a specific day to let her know my final decision.
Immediately after hanging up the phone, I received a call from her again as it was her number. I answered "hello?" and in response i got "girl, we're not dealing with her!" I did not respond and immediately ended the call.
She had actually meant to call the social worker supervisor who also interviewed me as she mentioned her name at the end of her remark before I hung up the phone. Regardless of whether that remark was about me or not, the whole experience with this administration person was completely and utterly unprofessional. It is unfortunate that her demeanor leaves a mark on the company. The company seems like a great place to work. But if this person's attitude reflects the company even in the slightest, then it may not be the most ideal place to work.
I received another call from her early the next morning rescinding (voiding) the offer that was made to me due to unforeseen circumstances within the company (or something along those lines). Good luck to Foster Children Safe Haven.
