      Entrevista

I emailed HR to find out the salary range for a role as it was not advertised. After 2 weeks, I had a response - the salary was in line with my expectations but the role had by the point been paused. The HR contact kindly agreed to take my application on which I did appreciate. They then asked me when I could do a screening call. I put forward some dates and heard nothing - I followed up several times and then finally confirmed a date and time around a week later. I took time out of my day to prep for the call: the time came and went, but I received no call and no email to explain. I followed up by email and received a very quick response from the HR contact saying that things had been busy due to manager sickness and they could no longer do the call. At this point (on a Friday) they apologised and offered to pass my CV onto the hiring manager, who then wanted to proceed. I provided a few days the following week I could do, but then heard nothing until Wednesday, at which point they asked if I could do the next morning (no timeslot provided yet despite being in less than 24 hrs). By this point (and having heard nothing) I had booked meetings etc at work and could not cancel them all for the interview - I'm sure most people would be in the same position. At this stage I was fed up of the poor organisation and back and forth and decided to withdraw from the process. I sent feedback to suggest that they should improve this in order to respect their candidates time, and suggested that they add salary information to their job adverts to avoid this back and forth in future. They came back with a very defensive email explaining why my feedback was incorrect, with the tone suggesting I should have been grateful to be considered at all given I had enquired via email. It's a shame, because this job looked a great fit on paper, however when the process makes applicants feel like an afterthought, it isn't a great advert for the job. I do appreciate I didn't follow the standard process, but I would still expect to be treated with respect and courtesy regardless of how I applied. It is not an unusual or unreasonable request to want to know how much you will be paid for a job, and most mid-level candidates cannot drop everything for a last minute interview. If this is Farnell's approach to hiring it makes me question the nature of the work environment, and all the more certain that withdrawing was the right choice. Appreciate others may not see the issue with this behaviour (and in fairness this was only my experience with HR, not the hiring manager who may have been great) but for me it was a red flag. A certain level of organisation and consideration for your time is the minimum you can expect during the interview process. Hopefully this was just a one off or a bad day, but if not I hope Farnell reviews its processes.
