I am thoroughly disappointed with my experience with this company over a few weeks time. I first had a phone screening with HR which was pleasant enough but I was a bit caught off guard because it wasn’t scheduled. I was simply called after she saw my application and the interview began right then and there. It was easy enough and I passed onto the next round which was within a few days time. The interview was done by 3 employees and was slightly difficult but nothing too jarring but several behavioral questions and questions regarding experience applicable to the position.
The next events can only be described as hazing. When they asked me if I was “good at giving presentations” to which I replied with confidence that indeed I was after my college education and previous work. They then led me out of the conference room and gathered every employee in the office into the break room to where the CEO informed me he was setting a timer for 2 minutes for me to give an acceptance speech as the first female president. So I had to think on my feet and rattle off nonsense. After which, everyone was allowed to ask me questions of which 4 were political which I found highly inappropriate. It was difficult to speak against it while being badgered by 10-15 employees at once as they tried their best to intimidate me. When I left, I was in shock and was reassured that I did great by a few employees. But no matter how well I did, it was a terrible intimidation tactic poorly executed to make you think you wanted the company more than they wanted you. I then had a call following this with identical questions for around 40 minutes. Then, I was called and told I received an offer and it would be sent out later that day.
After reviewing the offer, I compiled a polite negotiation with several questions because the offer was sparse and very general. The initial range I was given for this position while interviewing was 35k-45k and I negotiated within that range. Almost a week later, I was told my offer was rescinded. All because I had voiced a very well worded opinion for a small raise or negotiation. The email they sent along with the email essentially said that they were more than gracious with the offer and they decided the offer no longer stood. Understand this is all 2 days before my set start date. At the end of the day, I am so happy that I saw the immaturity and insanity of this company before I signed anything or started wasting my time.
Negotiations are a very normal part of job offers, I am not a desperate graduate seeking appraisal and offers from whoever. It is prudent that we also review and approve these companies. For them to not understand that, even after I assured HR that I would’ve accepted the offer as is if they couldn’t provide that salary at this moment. I would have been happy if they reviewed my performance within the year to see if I was eligible for a raise but apparently my counter offer rattled them so much they had to retract. So incredibly juvenile and I would recommend you DO NOT waste your time with this company. Listen to the low reviews on Glassdoor because they are correct. I didn’t want to believe a company could be so foul to employees but I now see the truth in the scathing reviews.
