Candidatei-me por indicação de um funcionário. Fui entrevistado pela Gartner (Stamford, CT) em out. de 2012
Entrevista
First contact was a phone screen with an HR recruiter. They called me because I had an employee referral. Second contact was a phone interview with the Director of Research, Writing Services. This is the person I would have been working for. This was a standard preliminary interview. She told me about the position and asked about my work experience. The next phase was a writing test. I was asked to draft a "Gartner First Take" using a press release and raw analytical material they provided. First Takes are designed to give clients rapid analysis and recommendations on new developments in the IT industry. First Takes include four fields: title (length limit is 60 characters, including spaces), summary (220 characters), event facts and analysis (2,500 characters combined). The exercise is about writing for a business audience. You have one hour to complete it. If you pass this test, you will get to the panel interview. This was a difficult interview. Mine was with three people, the Director of Research, Writing Services, a Project Manager and a Senior Writer who was on the phone from the UK. This was a difficult interview. The focus was on how I would handle the most difficult aspects of the job.

There was a focus on how I would deal with Gartner's analysts. They basically said that the analysts are a difficult bunch and in this position you have to improve their writing for public consumption. Or maybe emphasize parts of their analysis over others, and they will resist. They wanted to know specifically how I would deal with difficult analysts. I had general answers for how to deal with difficult people in the workplace that did not seem to satisfy. They wanted to know specifically how I would handle a specific person I have never met. Tough to do. You learn how to deal with certain personalities though trial and error.

Recruiter call, hiring manager call, writing test, team call ... all very well structured and handled, and while not "easy," very thorough and well managed process. Didn't get an offer ultimately but have hopes for future.

Very organized and thorough. The recruiter was very nice and quick to get back to me. I had to take a writing test, which was challenging but not impossible. After I "passed" the test, I had a one-on-one phone interview with the hiring manager. She asked some tough questions. My impression is that they like to have people who have direct experience. While I have a lot of writing experience in general, I didn't have enough in business or technology. My only wish is that they got back to with a definite no. I had to assume it was a no after not hearing back for a month.

I applied online and was contacted in about three weeks by a recruiter. We set up a 30 minute telephone interview for the following week. I was asked to provide a summary of my IT writing experience in advance of the call. The next step was a 1 hour timed writing test. Gartner sent me a press release and analyst commentary and I turned it into a summary note. At this point I received an offer from another company and ended conversations with Gartner.
