Applied to JAPAN AI, a subsidiary of Geniee, and had a disappointing experience during the 2nd round of interviews with the VP. The interview was behavior-based, similar to Amazon's format. The interviewer appeared unimpressed throughout. At one point, I expressed that I hadn’t had the opportunity to fully showcase the strengths that matched their expectations. The VP responded curtly with, “You had bad luck this time,” which came across as dismissive and unprofessional. I could not feel the mutual respect and felt one-sided.

After the initial two pleasant rounds with friendly individuals, I was scheduled for an interview with the CTO. The atmosphere was completely different. He was assertive and provided incorrect assessments of my responses to his ill-conceived questions. When I kindly offered to send him a link to a paper (the solution I was explaining), he responded with a dismissive “I don’t care.” Later in the interview, he acknowledged his mistake on another point and blamed it on the HR department or previous employees, despite it being entirely his own responsibility. Furthermore, he demonstrated a lack of technical expertise, which is expected of a CTO, when discussing other papers. He consistently asserted that they were incorrect, even though they were peer-reviewed and published by me.
