Gentex held a program with the Michigan Colleges Alliance for potential summer interns. This may not be the fault of Gentex, but I found the program misleading at best. After submitting my resume to the MCA, I received an email with the subject line "You have been chosen to interview with Gentex!" Which, in hindsight, was the most misleading email I've ever received. The program was a 2 hour, painful to sit though, monotone lecture about the products Gentex makes. It essentially was a summary of everything that is on their website. There was 50+ people in the call, and the "interview," as it was referred to, was a 10 minute breakout room with 20 other students. The engineer leading my breakout room said "I don't have an agenda for this, so can someone tell me what she said we are supposed to be doing in here?" Yeah. That was the "interview." Needless to say, I did not feel excited by this. Again, I cannot attribute all of this to Gentex, but these had to have been some miscommunication. Apparently the MCA is dying for good reason. What this 2 hour ordeal granted you was a 5 minute virtual interview with an HR rep. It was very obvious that this was extremely rushed, and I got the sense that these were being cranked out as fast as possible. No notes were taken, no responses to my answers, no attempt at a meaningful connection. This alone is almost understandable given the situation, but I was specifically told my resume would be sent to someone in the engineering department, and I was told I would hear back soon. This all happened almost two months ago, and I have since reached back out to them, only to be ghosted. After sitting through that presentation the promise of an interview, the least they can do is a timely rejection email instead of application purgatory.
