Got contacted through LinkedIn from GetYourGuide staff and asked if I would like to apply as Senior Backend Engineer. After submitting my CV I got contacted by a tech recruiter for arranging a date and time for a Zoom call. First available date was 3 weeks later, so I asked for an earlier date as I was actively doing interviews at this time. Finally I got a first interview two weeks after my application. The interview with the tech recruiter was friendly and I could ask all my questions. At the end I was given a take home test with Codility (which is controversially discussed and might or might not help finding good software engineers). I expected I would have to solve some code riddle but the take home test was a reasonable Java programming task with a 90 minute time limit and a focus on correctness. Basically, it was parsing text input with a regular expression, sorting, group by an attribute, rearranging data and output. I prepared my preferred IDE for having the code compiled and run locally as the Codility online editor is very basic (no auto-complete, static code analysis, etc.). After submitting the code it was automatically rated and I got a score of 66%. Not being familiar with such online code tests, for me it was a bit intransparent how and with which criterias the code eventually was evaluated. A day after the take home test I asked the tech recruiter for a quick follow up as I already had offers I had to decide on in a timely manner. I was told, that my solution in the take home test did not match what they were looking for with this role and they will move forward with candidates whose responses demonstrated a closer match to their requirements.

Recruitment team is really nice and the process is fast and smooth. I didn't reach but I think it's 5 round at the end including onsite interview and face-to-face. 1. Phone screen with HR, 2. Technical home task, 3. Face-to-face: You will be asked conducting live coding for some technical questions. I was expecting complicated real life oriented questions, but I've asked easy questions that i use cheat sheet most of my time when I need. Live coding is a bit tricky, somehow as a developer we have a tabu for writing code on our own without feeling that someone is watching us. I'd love to have a chance to work with company. So eventually, let's see if our paths cross again.
