If you're looking to get a job quickly, that will not happen here. They are very thorough and have extremely high standards, which is a good thing for a Police Department. The entire process took me 17 months from application to hire date. The process may have changed since I went through it, but it started with applying online then getting an email several weeks or possibly months later stating that I was invited to take a skills test. The test was in a public place where there were about 200 people all vying for the same position. It took about 2-3 hours. About 4-5 months later I received a call and was told that I made it to the next phase which was doing a hands-on computer simulation test at the Police Department. This took about 2-3 hours as well and it was just me this time. Another 3-4 months later I was asked to come in for a panel interview, which I also made it through. The next phase was the background check which took at least 2 months. The background check includes a very extensive and probing personal interview, polygraph test, physical, psychology test, drug test and physical exam along with the standard background check (employment, education, credit, etc.) I was finally offered the job and accepted, however I am no longer employed there. I have no complaints about the interview process, just be prepared for it to be very long and extremely thorough. If you are pursuing a career you feel is right for you, don't be discouraged by the time it takes or the steps within the process. If you persevere and are the type of person they are looking for, you will end up with a very satisfying career.
