A recruiter reached out to me 2 weeks after I applied and asked me to do a coding exercise. They said to only spend 2 hours on it, but that it was available for 5 hours in case I needed more time. It was a simple exercise to implement methods for storing and retrieving files, along with some unit tests. I spent a lot of time on this exercise - ensuring the code was clean, well-structured and well-documented. I even added unit tests and implemented the "bonus" part of the exercise. I also made sure to have descriptive commit messages and a very descriptive pull request. A few days later I got a rejection email with no feedback, which is their policy. They told me I could re-apply in six months. After wasting my Saturday on your BS exercise? No thanks! As others have said, GitHub's interview process is awful. I'd recommend avoiding this company.
