Multiple rounds across different departments including engineering and legal. Primarily conversational. Focus on culture fit as well as technical fit. Ability to be a manager of one very important aspect given all remote nature of company.

I was REALLY disappointed in Gitlabs interview process, especially considering how serious they are about their core values. The process took well over 6 weeks (for 2 interviews excluding the screening call). My interview schedule did not align to what was noted in their handbook as far as interviewing at GitLab. Outside of that, their handbook notes recruiters should be communicating with candidates and informing them where they are in the process. I received an offer letter from another company I was interviewing with, however, I really wanted to the position at GitLab just because their culture is amazing. I tried to reach out to my recruiter and get their timeline; she responded once noting the next session would be scheduled quickly and would they would try to do so before my response was due on the offer I had in hand. The communication went silent after that. I sent a follow up email and no response. I get an email the next week noting the position had been filled. I'm glad I did not decline the offer I had in hand but I would've appreciated the transparency and open communication on GitLab's part. I completely understand that the team may be evaluating multiple candidates (just like anyone applying for a job would be looking at more than one employer), however, I do think respect, transparency and courtesy should be extended on both sides, which includes responding to candidates and letting them know where they are. I am writing so that hopefully GitLab can improve their processes around talent acquisition and recruiting.
