Initially I had a phone call with the hiring manager, then a week later a technical phone interview with some coderpad work. Another week passed and Grio contacted me again and asked me to do a coding test. I had 72 hours to build an Android app of their specification. I completed the app in two days (about 44 hours work) with a proper MVVM design including test cases and all bonus app features. Two weeks pass. Grio asks me to come in for a face-to-face. Later, I feel confident that I did well after the face-to-face interviews. Another week passes. Grio is now asking for my work references. I send them 3 references from my prior job, as requested. 10 days pass with no word. Then Grio informs me that "they will not be moving forward."
My feeling here is that Grio as a company paid me no respect whatsoever during the interview process. There was no feedback from the company at any stage. At one point early on, an interviewer wanted a "Hangouts" video call to "see if I fit their culture." I declined that video call and Grio did not see me until the final face-to-face.
Grio made me do a very lot of work to prove I know my stuff. When I did that, they asked for references. The final outcome is that I was left in the position of apologizing to my references and asking them to *again* be a reference next time. Grio gave no indication about why they changed their mind. I'm an older engineer and am left with the feeling that age had something to do with it. I passed all their tests and answered all their questions correctly. I'm an easy going person with no ego. I work well with most anyone. Although qualified, I did not get this job.
