Interview process started off smoothly with communication via text that my application was being reviewed and then later on to set up an interview over the phone. Phone interview was about 30-45min wherein I described my background, why I wanted to work for Hampel Oil, and was explained the details of the position. I later on followed up with the recruiter multiple times every two weeks working on a follow up interview and ended up setting an in-person date in Wichita to interview further. I got to meet with Scott (President), Danny (Vice President), and Angie (HR Director). All of them we're super kind, well spoken, and friendly. We discussed my background, their Director of Environmental Health and Safety Position, and some of the ideas I had for driving the safety culture further within their company. I later followed up with the original HR Recruiter Dan ever so often asking for updates and was told that they we're still reviewing other candidates and that I would later hear back on a "3rd Round Interview"
Sadly after an almost 6 month process overall, seeing the job reposted on LinkedIn 1-2 times, and 2-3 months with no response after the 2nd interview and heel dragging from the recruiter with each call, I just assumed that I had been ghosted or passed on for the position without any feedback.
It seems management was a bit tied between wanting someone with multiple years of experience in just Safety, or someone who had varying experience in Warehouses, Operations, Logistics, Safety, Sales, and Environmental compliance. I had a majority of the latter but still did not get feedback. Recruiting honestly seemed as though upper management was dragging their heels to make a decision and said quote "They picked the wrong person last time and they're scared they're gonna get burned again so they want to interview more people." Sadly this put me in a holding pattern when they knew up front that I wanted to move to Wichita, KS and invest with their company.
