I was previously making 10.25 for audit shifts at a lesser quality hotel and made it clear if they wanted me, they'd have to pay me at least 10.75/hr. I was supporting two people at the time on one income, so I needed the pay raise, and I wasn't going to leave what was a sure steady position if they weren't going to make it worth the stress of switching jobs. They gave me what I asked and called me back later the same day to offer me the position. Hiring paperwork the next day, and then I started the next night.
