I applied online and was contacted within a couple days to kick off the interview process. The entire process consisted of a phone screen, an engineering call, a take home programming assignment, a remote pair-programming session, and an on-site interview. The on-site was a series of 1:1 interviews, and included a programming exercise, lunch with a couple engineers, engineering discussions, and product discussions. I got a decent feel for the culture of HL and the direction of the company. HomeLight's interview process was thorough, but fair. The programming portions were practical coding exercises that engendered discussion about engineering best practices and technical tradeoffs rather than being LeetCode-style algorithmic puzzles. This was a breath of fresh air, and it inspired confidence in the engineering leadership. In-person, the team was interested in my experience, and they wanted to see that I was product-minded. Their passion about the prospects for the business was contagious, and it seems like an exciting time to be at HomeLight. Everybody I met at HL was smart, down to earth, and nice. They were super friendly and made me feel like part of the team. Ian Sander was absolutely awesome to work with. I applied while living in Philadelphia, and Ian made the communication, travel, hotel booking, and other interview logistics as stress-free as possible. Overall, it was one of the most pleasant interview experiences I've ever had.
