I found the job role on Indeed.co.uk of the Christmas temporary sales adviser. I applied online which didn't take too much time, 6 days later I was invited for an online assessment which took about 20-30 minutes, not too hard. After completing the assessment, I was sent an email which told me "- We've received your answers and will review them and come back to you in the next 5 days.". I did the online assessment on August 17th, I finally received the 'outcome' on September 9th, this being 23 days later, led me to believe I had failed the assessment.
The email i received was an invitation to a 'video interview' which i have never done before. I completed this video interview on my iPad, but you can also do it on PC or phone. The video interview was very awkward as you are only talking to the camera, but it allows you to preview the recording and you can try again in case you make any mistakes. I completed the video interview on September 14th and then received a email for a invitation for the assessment center on October 7th. I then booked my interview for Tuesday 13th at 10:00am to 12:00pm.
As I walked into the store, I saw someone dressed similarly as me and asked him if he was here for the assessment center. We both walked up to one of the staff members on the beauty department, but as she is only a adviser for a certain brand, she told us she didn't know where we should go but she heard it was somewhere near the second floor. We made our way upstairs and asked again where it was to another member of staff where the interview was, we was taken to the room where the interview was held and got told by a woman inside "Sorry we're not ready, go to the staff canteen". We wasn't told how to get there or where to go. So again, we asked another member of staff of how to get to the staff canteen. She told us how to get there and instead took us there. We sat down in the canteen and there was 7 people already sitting down there. All quite young and looked about my age. 5 more people came in, including me. Even though the interview was at 10:00am, the 'interviewees' didn't come and get us until 10:20am. We were then guided by them to the assessment room. And everyone sat down in groups of 4. We were given a short presentation by the two interviewees, a man and a woman, about House of Fraser and the brands they sell etc. We were also told to fill out a availability sheet so they could know the hours and days we could work etc. We were then told about how House of Fraser offers "VIP Service" something they seemed to talk about a lot. We were given a large piece of paper and told to write down places in the local area where we have received VIP service and how they offered it. We then had to present it to the rest of the people at the assessment center. After that, each group was given a sheet with a profile of a person on it. One group received a profile of a middle aged woman who had just had her bathroom re-done and needed new items, and the last two groups were given the same profile of a guy in his 20's; It probably would of been better if two of the profiles weren't the same. So in our groups of 4 we had to walk around the store and pick out clothes for this profile and bring them back to the room. We then presented it back to the others and was then given another small presentation. We were then told that we were now going to be interviewed in the other room. I was one of the second people to be interviewed and just spoke about the hours i had chosen and how come i couldn't do certain days etc.
2 days later i received a phone call from one of the interviewees that was in the room with me to tell me that i had got the job and asked if I could come in on 2 certain days and unfortunately I couldn't work on one of the days so it has been changed to a later date. The guy on the phone told me that shortly after this phone call i would receive an email with a link of the employee portal which i still haven't received (5 days!) I phoned the store yesterday and got told that the House of Fraser head office isn't open on a weekend and they store doesn't send out the employee details until Friday so i would either receive the email on Monday (Today) or Tuesday, and if i don't receive it by Wednesday, to call back again.
Overall, my experience with trying to apply for House of Fraser is quite a long process but I hope its worth it in the long-term.
