I referred to a recent anecdote about a violent student I had encountered. This student had a spat with another student and it escalated physically. I separated the student, notified and involved school personnel, and then consequences were set. I further elaborated that I was able to diffuse the situation somewhat by speaking with the perpetrator and victim separately to hear their versions. We were then able to discuss solutions if this problem were to arise again in the future.
