      Entrevista

Applied to a fully remote job and made it through 2 rounds with great feedback. In each round the interviewer told me I made it to the next round. I was told the recruiter would reach out Monday to schedule the 3rd round. Monday, the recruiter sends me an “application” to complete even though I clearly already applied. I fill it out and the next day I received an email from the recruiter telling me that while my feedback was “overwhelmingly positive” the role is now in-office 2-3 days per week and I’m not moving forward because I don’t live in Cambridge, MA. I really liked what I learned about the company all for the momentum to be snatched from beneath me. It was truly a bait and switch in the worst way. About 1.5 months passed between my original app and the interviews. The employees had plenty of time to realize this remote role actually needed to be hybrid and should’ve been honest from the start. 0 out of 10 recommend this organization.

      Entrevista

TLDR: Based on my experience, I would not apply to HubSpot again nor recommend it to other job seekers. - - The long winded nitty gritty details supporting that opinion (I've tried everything to ensure paragraph separation, but can't guarantee GD will allow it): - - I applied to HubSpot and shortly after also had a current employee refer me. It took some time for a recruiter to reach out, which I know is normal, but once communication began, the interaction felt unusually disjointed. Emails went unanswered unless I followed up, and responses came through new threads rather than continuing the existing one. It felt more like a lack of organization than an issue with any ATS. - - When we scheduled the recruiter screening, the experience was unexpectedly poor. It was immediately clear my resume had not been reviewed prior to the call, and I was screened for a role I didn't apply for. Once I called attention to this, the explanation provided was that the referring employee may have nominated me for multiple roles. Given that I had applied directly to a specific position though (and the employee was aware of this), it should be in their ATS. If I was nominated for multiple, it would have been reasonable to clarify at the start of the call. After this was discussed, she kept circling back to the JD for the role (example: “I’m sure you saw the pay band on the job posting” - I never saw the job posting as discussed, so no I did not see the pay band). - - After reviewing my resume live during the call, she commented on the depth of my experience and asked me to “take the night” to decide if I wanted to move forward. I indicated I would and stated I thought I would most likely want to continue forward. However, within 45 minutes of ending the call, she emailed asking if I was still available the next day for next steps. The inconsistency and lack of clear communication were noticeable. - - I proceeded to the next step and met with the EA lead. HubSpot has EAs report to an EA manager rather than directly to their exec, and the exec is not involved in the interview process at all. As someone who values the EA:Exec relationship, this was a red flag. I had mentioned this to the recruiter and was told it “might be possible" to speak to the exec during the interview process, but wasn't guaranteed. - - During the interview with the EA lead, she was not particularly warm and again had not reviewed my resume. She commented that my experience included many 1–2 year roles, even though one of my most relevant positions was 4.5 years. It made me question whether she had the correct resume in front of her, and if she did, had she reviewed it carefully. - - Less than 15 minutes into the interview, she ran out of questions. It was apparent she wished to end the call, but I had questions of my own. While I used the remaining time to ask them, her dog jumping into her lap mid-call shifted her attention away from the interview. I’ve worked remotely for years and *love* a pet cameo, but this combined with the overall lack of preparation and engagement, amplified the feeling that my time wasn’t being respected. - - I sent thank you emails to both the recruiter and the EA lead afterward. I received no reply. Instead, at 5:30 PM ET that same day (a Friday), I received an automated rejection email. The recruiter did not reach out until the following Tuesday evening. Even then, the message was a generic template with “[HIRING MANAGER]” still included in the first sentence. - - I take accountability for the fact that I wasn’t at my absolute best in the 2nd interview, I wouldn't have moved me forward either. But the broader pattern was hard to ignore: lack of preparation, lack of communication, and a process that felt disorganized from start to finish. As an EA, I've worked with recruiters and hiring teams myself, and I cannot imagine viewing any part of this as an acceptable candidate experience. - - I’ve never left a negative Glassdoor review before, but after taking several weeks to reflect, and speaking to others who’ve had similar experiences interviewing here... I felt it was important to share. Based on my experience, I would not apply to HubSpot again nor recommend it to other job seekers.
