The team is distributed, so there were multiple rounds of phone interviews. During the end of my first interview, the manager let me know why he had reservations about my skillset. That in-the-moment feedback allowed me to provide more information in my follow-up email, which moved me forward in the process. We also discussed rate in the first interview, which kept us from wasting each other's time. And I don't mean that they strong-armed my number out of me: it was a give-and-take discussion about the ballpark range. And it was a competitive salary range.
