1. Recruiter Phone Screen where they ask about your background and why you want to work here. Friendly interaction. 2. Technical Phone Interview (Failed here) where they asked me a single coding question about a class. My interviewer was dead silent the entire time, which made me feel pretty uncomfortable. In the end, she made it implicitly obvious that I failed. Did not feel good. Recruiter got back to me with a fail email, saying that we're looking for 'higher-caliber candidates', which I thought was rudely phrased.

The interview process was typical in my experience. This was a phone interview, and the interviewer was nice. He sounded welcoming and asked the normal questions for a first interview.

Submitted a resume/cover letter online. I was called approximately a week later to schedule a phone screen. The actual call occurred about a week after I scheduled it. The person interviewing me was obviously not experienced with interviews and wasn’t prepared to answer basic questions that anyone would ask during an initial interview. There were very few questions asked about my background and experience. I asked for a salary range for the position and she replied that she “doesn’t know how much other people on the team make” and then told me that question is more appropriate for “later in the interview process.” After the initial call, I was sent a “take-home test” and given a week to complete it. I am confident in the work I provided as it was reviewed by another content development executive that runs a business nearly identical to IXL. I was then rejected out of hand less than a full business day after I submitted a work product that amounted to over 1500 words. I was sent a form email by the recruiter and was provided with no feedback whatsoever on the work. I have never previously interviewed for a content development company that asked someone to complete a task of that length with no intent of speaking with them afterward. To this hiring team: you should be posting the salary range in the job posting itself, as none of us is doing this primarily for our health or the benefit of society out of the kindness of our hearts. Your interviewer couldn’t provide me with this very basic information to inform my own decision as to whether I should even continue pursuing the role. I’m sorry to say I feel I should have taken the other negative reviews on this site more seriously than I did. I think the approval rating of upper management and the comments otherwise say it all. I suppose anyone who reads this can dismiss it as the disappointed and bitter complaints of a reject, but I don’t have an axe to grind, bitter or otherwise. This simply isn’t good hiring practice and it’s very suspect. Moreover, for a company with this kind of reach, the interface looks utterly primitive and reminds me very much of a free Geocities website from 1999.

My experience interviewing at IXL started positively. I was a referral and felt a good connection with the hiring manager and team. I completed a final interview and was rejected via email with no explanation or feedback, even when I replied requesting it. What was more alarming was nine months later when the hiring manager who I had already spent quite a bit of time getting to know throughout this process messaged me on Linkedin as if she had never met me asking if I was interested in a recruiter role. It was clearly a Linkedin template and she didn't even take the time to look at my profile or she would have seen that I was already a finalist that she chose not to hire. Luckily I'm happily employed now. But there were a lot of red flags about the recruiting culture when I interviewed, and even more now that I received such a careless message.

First-round interview was 30 minutes over the phone with a current Curriculum Developer. The interviewer asked questions like: What prerequisite skills would be needed in order to be successful for another skill (I had to tell which skills would be needed to be successful with systems of linear equations)? What would an entry level question for skill look like? If a student got a question wrong about ___________ (insert skill/content area), how would you formulate an explanation at a _____ grade level (In my case, the interviewer indicated that my explanation should be geared toward an elementary school student). Then, the interviewer asked "What would the different levels of questions for this skill look like?" (Clearly looking for questions to begin very simple and gradually become more challenging.) Next, the interviewer asked "What types of values/questions that should be avoided if you were building an IXL skill for this content?" There were several other content-heavy questions as well. The interviewer was very clearly reading from scripted questions and had ZERO desire to get to know me or anything about my background. The interview was entirely technical questions, and the interviewer left very little time for me to ask questions about the position and the team. Afterwards, I tried to send a "Thank You" email to the individual that I interviewed with, and received a message from the HR contact indicating that all communication should be directed through her. She then sent me a "3-hour Take Home Test", which I was given one week to complete. I finished it within two days and received notice less than 3 days later that I was not selected for the job with no opportunity to receive feedback as to the reason I was turned down. Based on other reviews written here, it seems like they constantly are fishing for applicants even if the position is not actually available. Overall, disappointing experience.

Lots of specific questions which were vague and if you didn't answer the way they wanted you'd have to answer again. They automatically push you through to the 2nd interview and ask for a written assessment. This is essentially their way to get free information from qualified candidates that they have no interest in hiring. Do not interview here you will waste your time!

Received a coding challenge through hackerrank. The questions were pretty difficult considering that it was the first assessment. Most of the questions were arrays and string manipulation and relied on printing out the correct format they want you to print out.

it was a remote Interview with camera off. Two interviewers one from the team that I applied to. The coding question was a little bit misleading at the beginning. Other things are fine.
