Before getting an interview there was an assessment. The assessment was way too much for a Junior position as they were asking for someone to build an angular app which integrated PHP and MySQL. From previous experience, I have been asked to write functions or simple applications, this seemed way out there.
Once I submitted the application I was given a time for a phone interview. The manager on the interview was quite nice, and many questions were about my experience with the assessment. The developer on the call was quite arrogant and rude as when I talked about the process I took, I mentioned I am not comfortable with the backend so I worked on that first. The developer interrupted and said that was a shame as the position is for a front end developer and that I should have had more focus on the front end. For a front end position, I agree the focus should be front end, but why have an assessment that heavily requires the development of a PHP API, especially for a junior position.
I was offered an in person interview but declined respectfully as the company did not entice me as it seemed I would be overworked and underpaid.
