      Entrevista

TL;DR: Company ghosted on me far into the interview process. They don't respect candidates' time and effort. After submitting my resume, Jarrod Simpson, operations manager, contacted me via e-mail. We had 30 minute phone call which was focused on soft skills. I was then invited to speak with the software lead, Bryce Blanton. We had a 1 hour phone call which covered a mixture of soft skills and technical skills. I received an invitation to participate in a coding challenge which involved creating a simple Twitter clone. Bryce and Jarrod understood my level of experience and that I had never worked with PHP or the microframework they recommended using, but asked I try it anyway. I spent a weekend diving into the challenge and produced a fully functioning app that met the user story requirements, complete with bootstrap styling. About a week after submitting the app, I received a boilerplate rejection email (the sort of email you would expect upon initial review of your resume, not further down the interview process). It was completely inappropriate for the amount of time I spent speaking with individuals at Koddi and developing a successful coding challenge. A follow-up email requesting feedback or suggestions for improvement went unanswered. The silver lining is that I am not working at a company that has so little value of its potential and current employees' time. Thanks for sparing me the heartache Koddi! I have some suggestions for Koddi if you're looking to turn the corner: 1. Provide personalized feedback in all cases, no matter how far a candidate went in the interview process or what position they applied for. Explain to candidates what is and isn't a good fit, and give feedback on how they can improve for future interviews. 2. Be very careful handing out coding challenges. You're asking someone to dedicate a lot of time and energy to a project. If you don't want someone with little experience, don't hand them a coding challenge just to see how they'll do. Spend the time upfront to determine if they have the skills/knowledge/experience you're searching for before presenting a coding challenge. 3. Answer all communications. Don't ignore anything or let something slip through the cracks. And a suggestion for developers: 1. Be very careful accepting coding challenges. Make sure a company isn't being lazy and handing them out to everyone before doing their homework. They need to put in some effort upfront to determine if it's in everyone's best interest to proceed with a challenge.

Hi there, We sincerely appreciate the time you took to take the coding challenge. We do not take the assignment of this challenge lightly. The intent is to determine how a candidate approaches a challenge. We look for clean, easy to follow, well abstracted, object-oriented code that adheres to general standards and best practices. In the end, our goal is that the assessment will shed some light on the fit with our current technology stack and team. We want to reduce the risk for both the candidate and the company of finding out there isn’t a fit after the person’s been with the company for a couple months. We do strive to provide feedback as often as possible. If you feel like you were missed in this process, you can email marnie@koddi.com - if something was missed along the way, we'd love to understand it, provide what insight we can, and make it better for future applicants. We hope that you take us up on the offer! In the meantime, thanks again for the feedback. It helps us understand where we’ve been, where we still are, and where we can focus in the future to give candidates the best experience possible. Kind regards, The Koddi recruiting team

Okay, I don't usually write reviews but this one was frustrating. I initially had a phone call with the hiring manager set up for a Wednesday at 3:30 pm, but about a week before the recruiter reached out and asked if I could do Monday (I had initially asked for an earlier spot so that's why he asked). I said sure, so we were booked for Monday at 3:30 pm. Day of, recruiter sends me an email saying to let him know how the interview goes after and if they don't call within 10 minutes to let him know. 3:40 pm arrives and no phone call so I call the recruiter, who then contacts the hiring manager to see whats up. He calls back right away apologizing (which wasn't any of his fault by the way) and asked if I had any time the rest of the day. I said it depends, but to let me know. He calls back almost right away and asks if 4:30 pm was alright, I said sure that works. 4:40 pm rolls around and no call again. I don't mind rescheduling, I don't mind rain checks but you do realize you wasted about an hour and half of my day with no phone call or email to let me know what is going on. Common courtesy would be nice.

Hi there! Thank you for your review, we are truly sorry to hear you had a bad experience with our interview process. Candidate experience is extremely important to us and regardless of how far a candidate gets with us through the process, we have high standards for how someone is treated throughout the process. We would like to make this right and give you a better experience than the one you had, so if you are open to it, we would love for you to reach out to us by contacting us at peopleandculture@koddi.com We hope you reach out directly so we can rectify this experience. Thank you The People and Culture Department at Koddi

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 2 semanas. Fui entrevistado pela Koddi (New York, NY) em nov. de 2019

      Entrevista

I applied via the company website. First, I was given a HackerRank challenge with 2 questions. Then a week later, followed up by a 30minute phone interview with a recruiter regarding company experience/environment. Next followed up by another 30minute phone interview with a member of the hiring team.
