To start, the interviewer did not call me at the time we scheduled. I emailed her 10 mins after our scheduled time. She eventually called me 30 mins late.
I was asked mostly questions around my current experience. No behavioral questions. I have 5 years of experience in Finance at one of the Top 10 Banks in the world. This role is equivalent to my current job at my current company. Same responsibilities and title. The interview took a weird turn as the interviewer proceeded to tell me that based off my experience, I’d only be considered as an Analyst and asked if I’d be willing to apply for that role instead and take less pay. I said that I would rather match my current salary if possible to which they responded with that would be up to the hiring managers but they didn’t think it would be possible as they’d only consider me equivalent to an Analyst. They then explained to me that an Analyst is typically an intern hired on full time or someone they hire out of college. Why even schedule a screening with someone if you don’t think their experience meets your requirements? Additionally I was asked what my salary range would be (I said 60k-120k) to which they responded “that’s a wide range. Why is that?” I responded with that I would need to know more about the role and responsibilities to which the interviewer said “I’m not sure what they do day to day or what they’re currently working on so I don’t have an answer for you”
After I stated that I would like to at least match my current pay, the interviewer then asked if I was considering any other offers with other companies…mind you, this was just an initial phone screening so I find that odd to be asked that so soon.
Overall, the experience was demeaning, unpleasant, and unprofessional. They did extend an offer to me to move on to the next two rounds of interviews with the hiring managers but I don’t know about it as that left a bad taste.
