      Entrevista

The interview process was extensive but a great opportunity to illustrate your knowledge and experience. They go into your entire professional experience to understand the totality of your skill set and the unique perspective you would bring to the job if hired.

I'm not one to provide feedback on interviews specifically, but this company is fairly new to the immigration law scene and I feel like future/potential candidates would benefit from being informed. The interview process at Legalpad was incredibly awkward and off-putting. Their manifesto is a book entitled "Who: A Method for Hiring" by Randy Street and Geoff Smart. What this book purports is to essentially bludgeon candidates into offering "truthful" answers (as opposed to more rehearsed answers) by threatening to contact every single one of your prior employers, questioning the feedback they would hypothetically give you, as well as performing deep dives on the employers themselves. Reference checks are pretty standard procedure, so nothing unusual there. The issue was that the entire interview focused on instilling this degree of fear to eke out more "honest" answers, and questioning every single answer you did provide. There was 1) zero talk about the company itself, until I asked, which was compelling as a fully-remote paralegal position and 2) zero talk about my personal experience/qualifications and what I might be able to bring to the company. In fact, my interviewer was totally clueless to the fact that I am currently employed and was drawn to the promise of a next-gen immigration law platform with their own proprietary software, even with my resume right in front of them. Massive red flag. The feeling of this interview felt like several interviews I experienced fresh out of college, where predatory hiring practices pick over the BA degree-holders desperate to land their first big "gig." I am thankfully no longer one of those candidates any longer and have amassed many years of experience in my field, so I left feeling a little insulted. As I get older, I very much buy into the belief that working for any company, regardless of position, needs to be a 50-50 partnership. When your future employer makes it very clear that they will hold all the leverage before you've even discussed compensation or even the job itself, it is time to run away.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are surprised and saddened to learn of the negative experience you had during your screening interview. We aim to treat every candidate with respect, empathy, and support on what we know can be an immensely stressful process. Our interview style is not meant to intimidate candidates but rather to eliminate bias and allow candidates to shine. This is the time first we've been made aware that our method makes people feel this way. If you're willing, please reach out to me as I'd like to hear more about your experience and how we can improve. Thanks again, Rosa Scheepers Director of People Operations
