Entrevista
I obtained my initial interview through a recruiting agency. The first interview consisted of about 1/2 hour with two managers in the room. The interview was a bit rushed, they seem to have a lot of people scheduled for the same day and I did not have a chance to ask many questions. The interviewers were courteous and the questions were job specific and focused on: 1) customer service philosophy, 2) situational (describe a situation when you had an angry customer and how you dealt with it, 3) supervisory skills and management style (how do you go about assessing employees skills and what would you do if you had to move them to a different position).
I was disappointed that they had no job description for me to have a better idea and expectations on what job duties the job entailed, my recruiter did not have one either. I was then set up to complete an online assessment consisting of a math skills section (word problems, math/ sales oriented calculations such as percentages, profit margins etc..) and a general / personality test section geared towards assessing your customer service skills and general work ethic. The math part was challenging to me because each question was timed individually as opposed to the entire section being timed so if I finished one question in a few seconds, I could not apply my extra time to a more laborious question that required extra calculation - I found that a bit unfair. Passing the test was a requirement for management positions. I did pass. About two weeks later, I was set up for a second interview with 2 other managers. This second one was more relaxed and longer so I had the chance to find out more about the job itself. I then learned that the position required completing a certification to become an optician which on average takes about 3 years (working full time, and going for the education on a part-time basis). About another week later, I was invited for a third interview.

It was a long process. I first had a phone interview with recruiter. Second interview was with a regional manager than with a second regional manager who I was supposed to meet with. They then job offered me. I countered them for a little more pay and within 24 hours they called be back and I accepted offer.

WHAT A JOKE.The process went on for 3 months. Started with a recruiter calling me. The interview went well, normal manager and retail questions. She said she would call back and schedule an interview with the Regional. She never called back. I called 3 times for follow up and received ZERO response. A month and a half went by so I gave up. Out of the blue, I get a call to schedule with Regional. Call went great, had a great bond and rapport with Regional. She said I would receive a call back from recruiter for panel interview. Got a call 2 weeks later to sched. panel. Was supposed to be 3 Regionals and recruiter. This call was rescheduled 3 times due to "traveling" Ended up being one regional. OK, call went well. Received a call 2 weeks later from the recruiter offering me a position as GM. Salary was 15k lower than I was currently making. I politely stated that this would not work. I really wanted to join the company but would need more. It was also warranted on my background ans experience. This was a Friday morning. She informed me that she would have a counter that afternoon. The next Wed I received a test that she would hear something by Fri. That was a month and a half ago. I followed up twice. This company DOES NOT follow up, they are extremely unprofessional and apparently these people do not realize they represent their company!!! I have told this story to many friends and co-workers. Not only will I think twice about doing business with this company, so will the people I have told.

Tell me about a time when you had to coach your staff for not performing or meeting goals. This question was asked on every interview.
