      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. Fui entrevistado pela Les Schwab Tire Centers (Bend, OR) em fev. de 2022

      Entrevista

I already had a job offer that started in a few months and was worried about a long term condition of the post so when I applied to a contract job with them to do in the meantime and they asked me instead to interview for this position I gingerly accepted as I felt very valued. However, after that intital feeling it was all downhill from there. The first interview was done by a super distracted HR person who just talked at me and I had to interject with actual information about myself then after 45 minutes she did that thing that outside non connected recuriters do where they demand you put soft and hard skills interms of years, not actually getting an assessment of the validity of technical skill related to the SPECIFIC job. Then right before she asked me my pay expectation she asked if I was single and had any kids (super illegal!) it was under the guise of giving me *exact* numbers regarding the healh insurance even though I said I didn’t care and the cost seem average nothing dramatic to bring up but given their “conservative work culture” where btw men in central Oregon can’t even wear beards in the winter (??) I wondered if it is why they low balled me. Eventually I got a word in edgewise and quoted them the National average for this position and they openly scoffed at me for it. I still cant get a handle on what their range was but it seemed at least 20k less and for an area that has a 25% higher cost of living it was preposterously low. Especially given the skills they demanded. In the next interview the hiring manager was upset I didn’t have years of experience in the exact applications (except one I was an expert at, but we’ll get to that) but instead worked on adjacent similar programs which again is iust such awful hiring practices and a waste of good candidates tableau and powerbi for example aren’t that different but ontop of having to know all these programs which skill wise should have probably been valued at double the salary they were offering suggested that the position must be filled by a intensely focused mathematical mind—or you know let the report functions do that for you. Ultimately the name of the game was SQL and I have used SQL since 2004. I have SOME raw coding skill in which I told them but have mainly have used it in an Oracle environment (as well as other environments like SAS) and intensely managing BigData at a 100year old major state University and building static and dynamic reports for high analytical and investigative research, program building, cluster analysis and metrics. Which I think they are just now moving to (which is why demanding specific applications is BS) from what sounds like where they’ve been raw coding it. At the end interview she asked me some terminology instead of skill assessment questions but that she took as such and because I didn’t have old school coding terminology that I could repeat back to her exactly how she wanted to hear it she wouldn’t even let me take the skills test *Shrug* keep your minimum wage job id you want me to catch a husband at let them wear a beard. I ended signing with the first job that pays the National average of this job with about half of the expectations of this job, that yes they did give me a skills test to which I did submit a significant SQL project for and whom I do not need to hoof it to a job in central Oregon in heels that adjusting for cost of living comes out to LESS than the administrator job whose sole function was to supported me at my old state University job.

      Pergunta 1

SQL Terminology in place of skill assement. But prior to that a combined hour and half of just talking at you and asking if you agree
