The people at Lewis-Burke seem like they'd be very nice to work with. The main paradox is that they list via their website they want employees with experience and advanced degrees in technical fields, yet the starting salary is decidedly not competitive with other firms where I have interviewed (the gap has been as much as $30k). With regard to the interview itself, I left having no real grasp of the specific things they work on, or where I'd fit in, even when I asked direct questions (they would just say "oh a bunch of different things here and there [in the science/research arena]"). When they reached out to let me know I hadn't been selected, the rationale they gave was essentially: "we feel you didn't have enough X experience" - when X was never asked about in the interview - and I did have that experience. Again, it seemed like a nice atmosphere to work in. I'd recommend interviewing for someone who might not be looking for the paycheck but instead wants the networking. A quick look at LinkedIn shows me that they have a lot of former employees who were there 1-2 years before moving on. That's pretty much the sense I got from the interview as well - especially since 90% of the people below the VP level were 25-30 years old. Big clue that it's an office with turnover and lower-than-average pay (reminiscent of the Hill actually). Good luck guys & girls!
