The hiring manager asked me about my series of short term temp/contract jobs previously. He wanted to know did I try to look for a permanent job. Explained the reasons to him. He seemed to understand and asked his colleague to join in the interview as well. By the end of the interview, he told me that he would align with HR on certain things and I would be informed by end of the day whether would I get the job offer and I would to start on work on the following Mon if I would to get the job offer. It was already Fri morning during the interview, hence I asked him did he has other candidates to interview. He said he didn't have other candidates to interview for this position. Although it wasn't confirm whether would I get the job offer by the end of the interview, I was on "standby" as I was required to go the recruitment agency to sign the contract on the same day if indeed I get the job offer and would to start work on the following Mon. Hence, I roamed outside for a few hours and finally decide to go home by 4pm as I wasn't informed that I got the job offer. On the following Mon's morning, my recruitment consultant informed me that she had already checked for me and found out that the position had been offered to another candidate. The feedback that she received on why I didn't get the job offer was due to my series of short term temp/contract assignments which seemed to be jumpy. I told my recruitment consultant no problem.
In fact, I was considering whether to turn down the job offer if I was given the job offer because of the inconvenience in travelling to that location (which is a bit desserted) even though there is company transport. But on the interview day, I couldn't take company transport. Although I had already checked on how to get there, I made 2 extra bus trips. I boarded bus 178 to Jurong East and transferred to bus 78 but alighted at the wrong bus stop. I walked deep inside a desserted area for about 15mins and finally made my way out to the main road and boarded bus 78 again. But I alighted at the wrong bus stop again and walked extra distance and took another bus 78 again and finally reached the bus stop which was near to that place. I felt that the hiring manager wasted not only my time, money and effort to travel to that place, but also my recruitment consultant's time. Before I was informed by my recruitment consultant to attend the interview, she already told me the hiring manager wanted to know why was I on a series of short term temp/contract assignments. Since the hiring manager was so concerned about my series of short term temp/contract assignments, he shouldn't have requested to interview me. He also shouldn't have told me that I would be informed by end of Fri whether would get the job offer. I felt that I was being taken for a ride. Moreover, the position which I interviewed for was a 3 months temp position. It is ironic that I was discriminated from getting the job offer for this short term position due to my series of previous also short term temp/contract assignments whereby some of my previous assignments were even longer than this 3 months temp position.
