Based on my experience as a candidate, the interview process at Lyst was disappointing.
Candidates are asked to invest a significant amount of time preparing a presentation, presenting for 15 minutes, answering questions, and studying a 30+ page values document before the final interview. Candidates are expected to understand these values and answer questions based on them during the interview process.
Some of the values highlighted in the document include fairness, honesty, transparency, and empathy. These are admirable principles, and it is reasonable for a company to expect candidates to demonstrate them, provided that the company is equally committed to applying those values in its own interactions and processes.
I was told that I would receive feedback within three working days of my final interview. Nearly three weeks later, I have still not received any update or response from HR despite following up.
I understand that delays can happen and that hiring decisions are not always straightforward. However, when candidates are asked to dedicate substantial time and effort to a process, basic communication and expectation management should not be too much to ask.
What I found most disappointing was the apparent gap between the values promoted during the interview process and my experience as a candidate. While candidates are expected to learn, demonstrate, and be assessed against these values, I did not feel that the same standards were reflected in the way the process was handled.
I was also surprised by this experience given that Lyst is part of a Japanese-owned group, as I would typically associate Japanese business culture with professionalism, respect, and clear communication.
This is, of course, only my personal experience, but it left me questioning whether the values presented to candidates are consistently reflected in practice.

"Where do you see yourself in five years?" kind of average old school interview questions that are often expected to be answered using the STAR method.

I was approached by the recruiter who was very friendly, clear and through. He went to great extents to describe the company and the position. I was then invited to complete a Python test that I understood to be more of a way to see how much I understood the language. However it turned out to be a small project which showed they were looking for a former Python developer. After a few hours I decided to submit what I had because it was eating too much of my time (I was on holiday) and explained that to them. Of course I failed (I never claimed to be a former Python developer, only that I managed Python developers in my previous role). We had a professional exchange and they said they took my feedback on the interview and test, which would help their recruiting process. The recruiter acted professional throughout the process and was timely in responding and getting in touch, which was very much appreciated.

Various questions related to how I managed my previous team and especially how I looked after their welfare.

First stage was a screening interview, second competency, third case study then presentation. I spent 3 days preparing the presentation, the details provided was not well written with a number of grammar errors. I was invited to an in person interview following the presentation that was in 2 parts 45mins to present my case study, then a break, followed by another 45mins of your standard competency pm questions.
I then prepared to present however we spent 25mins of 45mins focused on my social media posts, I was asked about why I travelled to locations, who I met and more personal questions. The first part of this interview was all over the place and very personal.
We ran over to an hour. We skipped the break and went into the second stage. This largely focused with the engineer, designer and someone from product. The questions were written on a paper and when reading from them the follow up questions and the main questions were usually asked in one go, resulting in incredibly fluffy questions. Some of the questions were again focused on personal reasons for the role.
I did not get the role but overall the interviews with the team were focused on personal ambitions rather than skillset. More context here, I previously worked in the industry and left to launch an app. The company culture does not seem accepting of personal ambitions, and favour more common corporate ladder career trajectory - regardless of industry experience.
