I got a call for Maersk hiring drive. It was friday and I was still working on my MEC.
The lady asked me to submit the online test within an hour, I told her that I was busy and cannot do that immediately.
She kept persuading me and I somehow managed to complete it in the next 3-4 hours, after taking care of my deliverables.
She then said you are shortlisted and you need to walk in to the office tomorrow (Saturday). She offered me 2 slots, I selected the 2nd option which was late in the afternoon, as I already had 1 zoom interview scheduled in the morning with some other organization.
Then she kept on insisting that I should reach as early as possible, there was a constant follow up, I reached an hour earlier than the scheduled time. When I reached there were around 300 candidates in the office.
For the role of liner accountant we were 8-10 people. I was the last person in that list, my interview started after 2 hours. It was for not more than 15 minutes.
They asked me to speak about any IFRS std. I was comfortable with. I started speaking about lease. They heard me for 5 minutes, then one of them said it was an old standard. The other fellow said I was conceptually right. But, the fact is the interviewers knowledge was not updated or he was confused. I discussed the same points with an IFRS expert post my interview. He advised me that even though what I said was right, that particular point was contraversial due to lack of knowledge with some people. He said many of them don't read & interpret it correctly. (Finance vs operating lease. Even if this concept is washed off for a 'lessee' for a 'lessor' it still exsits, but as per the interviewer it is washed off completely)
It's a no brainer, that they did not hire me. But I am happy that I did not have to work with such egoistic people. It is fine, if you do not know, but the attitude is not acceptable.
