I received an initial on-campus interview through my university. I met with a finance & accounting director at one of the hotels. This was to my surprise, as I thought that I would be meeting with human resources personnel, and I found it ironic that I wasn't asked any technical questions.
I felt that the interview went well. At the end, he told me that I would get a call within a week and if I didn't then I should get in contact with him. A week passed and I had heard nothing, so I sent an email. Unfortunately, I did not receive a response. Quite displeased, I assumed that I had not been chosen but was still frustrated as to why I had not received any communication.
Surprisingly, a couple weeks later, I received an email requesting that I take an assessment test online which would score me based on my management and leadership skills. I completed the test. A week passed and I hadn't received any updates regarding my results. I emailed the director again. Again, no response.
I waited an additional 2 weeks. Through the career services office at my university, I was able to get the contact information for a human resources person that I had never met (or made contact with) before. I emailed him and explained my situation. He was kind enough to respond to me the next day and inform me that I had not been chosen. Finally, after 6 weeks, closure!
This may have been an isolated instance, but I was very disappointed with the lack of communication from the initial interviewer.
