I contacted a local franchise, in hopes of interviewing for a part time Esthetician. I inquired about the 500 hours of education prereq, as the state I live in does not require 500 hours. They said it would be fine, especially when I offered up the information that I was also an LMT. I grabbed an interview for the next day. I went in, filled out the job app, and spoke with the person who hires in that area. She asked me to schedule a practical for both esthetician and massage. I did both of them the next day. Being that each professional hour is 50 minutes for them...I expected at least 40 minutes for each practical. Instead, I was faced with an hour and 10 minutes to do both practicals, with a seasoned LMT who was rushing me along because she had a client coming in. A very nice Esthetician sat through it with me, and explained the products, and what to use for tools and supplies specific to Massage Envy. I spent most of my time with the Esthetician practical, which was a good experience. Digressing to the Massage practical (both were performed on the same LMT)..I had about 10 minutes to work on one (large) area. It was fine until she asked me if I could do deep tissue work...in a more specific area. I am able to do it, but, I believe in first working on the very specific tissue, and letting it "allow" me to get into the deeper muscles. I failed. I have to be the only one..I swear. So, in one respect, I blame myself for not asking the specifics of doing both practicals in one day..timeframe and such. I also felt cheated out of showing my talent as an LMT. I did pass the Esthetician part...and that was my main objective...to be a part time esthetician. All I can think is wow..I failed at a job I wasn't looking for...and was rushed through the massage part..which in my opinion, shouldn't be rushed.
