Entrevista
I interviewed for a Head of Accounts position and was interviewed by one of the company’s co-owners.
The experience was disappointing due to what felt like a poorly structured interview process. My resume clearly outlines my background, including extensive healthcare experience and more limited marketing experience. Despite that, I was invited to interview.
During the interview, the co-owner spent a significant amount of time walking through every position on my resume, asking detailed questions about what I liked and disliked at each company, what supervisors would say about me, and even the names of managers and direct reports from prior roles. Much of this felt unnecessary and unrelated to determining whether I met the primary qualifications for the position.
Only at the very end of the interview did the co-owner raise concerns about my level of marketing experience. After I explained the marketing-related experience I do have, he abruptly stated that the position was not a fit.
What was frustrating is that my resume had already made my experience level clear before the interview was scheduled. If marketing experience was a dealbreaker, that could have been identified during the resume review process or addressed at the beginning of the interview rather than after spending considerable time discussing my employment history.
The interview ended immediately after that discussion. The overall experience left me with the impression that the role requirements had not been adequately vetted before I was brought into the interview process, resulting in a poor use of both my time and the company’s time.
