A recruiter reached out to me after I submitted applications for two different entry-level positions. I was offered several 30-minute time slots to talk on the phone. We had a very easy conversation and the recruiter was personable. He told me exactly what the next steps would be: he would pass my application and his interview notes to the hiring department; the department would contact me within a few days to let me know if they wanted to bring me in for a skills test; if the skills test went well, I would be brought in to meet with the department managers.
After our initial interview, I sent a follow-up email thanking the recruiter for their time and saying I looked forward to hearing from them.
No one from McMaster-Carr ever contacted me again despite my sending a follow-up email inquiring about the status of my application. I though it was strange that I was not invited to take the skills test because I am amply qualified. Since the position was entry-level, I am inclined to think ageism may have been at play.
