      Entrevista

I was referred by an employee. The interview process started in October 2016. Overall, the experience was amazing! (1) 20 min phone call with Recruiter: mostly behavioral about your college experience, a little about your previous job experience, why medallia (2) 1 hr phone call with Team Member: more technical, dives into your job experience and choices you made, how you deal with setbacks (3) Challenge: part excel technical work, other half is writing a functional spec, took about 9 hours total (4) 3 hr in-person interview: first two interviews are technical/behavioral, last interview is cultural fit

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me por meio de recrutador(a). O processo levou 3 meses. Fui entrevistado pela Medallia em ago. de 2014

      Entrevista

I talked to a recruiter at a college career fair for a good 20-30 minutes, and I was contacted for an interview. First interview went well - the interviewer was friendly and very enthusiastic about his work. The questions were mainly questions to test how you think and how well you explain how you think. There were a few simple basic algebra questions but they weren't very hard. The interviewer was also very informative when answering any questions I had. I got a call from a different recruiter the next day saying they wanted to move me ahead, and I was scheduled for a 24 hour challenge by the end of the week. The challenge had two parts - one writing a spec, and the other doing some analysis on Excel. At the beginning of the 24 hours, I got to talk to one of their analysts to ask any questions I had about the challenge. Since the challenge is worded vaguely, I asked a lot of clarifying questions, which proved to be helpful for when I worked on the challenged. It seemed like they wanted to test if you knew which questions to ask. There was a lot of data that they wanted analyzed. There was no straight-forward way to complete it, so you have to be creative in how you approach it. About a week after I submitted the 24 hour challenge, I got an email asking to schedule a final on-site interview. Since I was going on a trip for a while during the time they wanted to interview me, they let me do the interview after I got back, which was nice. I interviewed with three people - 2 senior analysts and one HR/Culture representative. I had an hour each with each interviewer, during which they asked me questions about my past work experiences, why I wanted the job, etc. I was also asked a few technical questions - 2 math problems and one JavaScript problem. The Culture representative asked me about hardships I had overcome in my life and what type of person I am. The interviews seemed a little redundant, since the two analysts seemed to be asking similar questions to each other, although the Culture representative asked completely different questions. One of the interviewers in the final round seemed to write me off for the job because of my major and background (which she knew from my resume), which really should have been done before or during the first interview, not the last one. She spent the entire hour trying to convince me that I didn't want the job. She also repeatedly interrupted me while I was answering her questions and wouldn't let me finish my answers. Coupled with the fact that she kept rolling her eyes at my answers and even sighing during the interview, I thought she handled the interview very unprofessionally. She made it seem like I was wasting her time by doing this interview. If she didn't want me from just looking at my resume, I don't think they should have asked me to come in. Besides the one rude interviewer, I had a positive experience with the rest of the process. The one bad interviewer tainted what would have been a generally positive experience, especially since she was one of the last Medallia people I had interacted with, which is unfortunate. I do think their organization could have been better though. I had four or five different recruiters contacting me throughout the process, and two different recruiters tried to schedule the same interview with me. The recruiters were very friendly and helpful, but it kind of just seemed like they were confused as to what was going on themselves.

I'm so sorry to hear that you felt written off, particularly because we're very proud of the diversity of our people. Medallians come from all sorts of backgrounds – from the Peace Corps to consulting – and all sorts of academic majors. There is no "right" profile for a job. Also, a basic tenet of our culture is valuing others, so we never want a candidate to feel disrespected during our process. I am glad your interactions with other team members were pleasant and more in line with our desired candidate journey. Thank you for your feedback on the organization – or seeming lack thereof – of our process. Due to the fast-paced nature of our work, we sometimes have to transition candidates from one recruiter to another. We are working to do so in a way that feels seamless not chaotic. Thank you again for your feedback. Please reach out to me with further thoughts at amy.pressman@medallia.com

      Entrevista

I first applied online but did not hear a response. I was only contacted two months later after I was referred by an employee. 1. HR Interview As soon I was referred, I was contacted by HR to schedule an interview. The interview focused a lot on your past experiences and your intentions on applying to Medallia and to the specific position. Make sure you know the company and its product well, and try to articulate why your past experiences and skills would make you a good fit for this position. The interviewer was super nice and enthusiastic, very informational and very helpful. Didn't feel like an interview at all, it was very conversational. He got back to me for a follow-up interview almost immediately after, on the same day. 2. Analyst Interview This was a one hour interview with a current analyst. Again, the interviewer was super conversational and a really nice person to talk to! We talked again about my past experiences and what the position entailed. The last 30 minutes was reserved for brain teasers. This was by far the most difficult part of the interview. The interviewer was so pleasant and sweet that I didn't feel too nervous or uncomfortable in answering the brain teasers. The first two questions had a definite answer and the last two questions, were open-ended questions which were intended to evaluate the thought process of the candidate while solving a problem. My advice is to definitely read up on brain teasers on this page and also just general ones you can find on the internet. Either way, the interviewer will definitely guide you through it, so relax and do the best you can! Medallia got back to me almost immediately - I completed my interview in the late afternoon and I was told that I would be proceeding to the challenge stage the morning after. 3. Challenge We were given a spec and excel challenge to be completed within 24 hours. A 30 minute phone call was scheduled with a current analyst to answer all the questions you may have regarding the challenge. Again, the analyst I spoke to was super chill and helpful! I wouldn't say that the spec and the excel challenge were particularly difficult, but you have to be able to work with a variety of excel formulas and functions. Make sure you know the if functions, vlookup, ifaverage, sum functions, iferrors and etc. I was told the morning after I submitted my challenge that I will not be proceeding to the next round.
