      Candidatura

Candidatei-me pessoalmente. O processo levou 3 meses. Fui entrevistado pela Medallia (Londres, Inglaterra) em abr. de 2015

      Entrevista

I voluntarily sent my CV and Cover Letter to the London HR department. They had had a few events on my campus and I was growing more and more curious about this company. Very welcoming touchpoint from the beginning, letting me know that the paperwork had been received and that process could begin shortly. - 1st round: phone interview with a technical analyst / engineer from the London office. Again a very warm point of contact, no unhealthy pressure, no unnecessary tricks. Just a genuine get-to-know conversation and assessment of my motivations, as most 1st interviews are or should be. This interview was more about my understanding of Medallia, my motivation to work for a tech company and my interest in technology in general. A fair amount of the conversation was based on my questions about their product / CEM platform. - 2nd round: take-home challenge, 48 hours to complete, which is more than enough. This challenge is twofold: 1) Explain into words a computer functionality, just like you would explain to a computer engineer a functionality you want built, without a comp. science background. 2) Excel statistical challenge. The data can get substantial, so the key is to find efficient ways to quickly dice, slice and use the data you need for your calculations. I think this way to test candidates is rather smart and fair: there can be no "bad day, bad time" excuse on a 48hrs challenge. Unlike a lot of interviews where a poor performance on the spot may not actually reflect the actual quality of a candidate, a 48hrs challenge clearly allows the applicant to express his knowledge, skills, logic and common sense without external pressure. The counterpart is the requirement to be thorough, structured and efficient. I also had a phone call - 3rd and last round: 3 on-site interviews - 1 functional (about Medallia, your CV, your interest in tech), 1 technical (mix of business acumen and technical knowledge and good sens - pure Medallia type of task), 1 cultural (fit of personality). I really liked the way these interviews went, for different reasons. First, they were extremely thorough and did not leave many things unquestioned. A candidate is applying for a position, for a company but also for a team to work with... and Medallia makes sure that there is a good fit. The margin of error of appreciation / bias seems extremely narrow. Not a lot to prepare, I think the key is to be natural and therefore naturally fit their standards for communication, skills, curiosity etc... Second, there is a fine line between properly testing a candidate (both fit and skills) and setting unhealthy pressure/discomfort during a interview, and Medallia always stays on the right side of it. They do not see successful candidates as "survivors of a tough recruiting process" but more as candidates who slowly but surely showed their interest, smartness, skills and curiosity to learn and improve. Very happy to work there now Cons: rather slow process and I often had to contact them to know whether or not I got to the next round. Definitely worth it and to be fair, I had to do the same for many firms. A lot of them just have too many candidates for the resources they hold to timely process everything.

      Entrevista

I applied to the London office and my interview process went as follows - 1) A 30 minute casual interview. 2) A 24h hour 2 part challenge that consisted of an Excel task and a written, attention to detail task. 3) 4 onsite interviews. The interview process was good, I was kept in the loop throughout and the interviewers were all very friendly. Having said this, I noticed a few areas of improvement in the process. I did not get an offer based on my 'lack of motivation for the company' - which I still cannot comprehend given the circumstances.

Candidatei-me por meio de recrutador(a). Fiz uma entrevista na empresa Medallia.

      Entrevista

I was contacted by a recruiter while only passively looking for other career options, but by the end of the interview process, I was onboard! The process started with a phone screen, then an interview with an analyst for an hour that was mostly behavioral with two small technical questions, one on excel and the other on a general "how would you approach your client if you knew you couldn't fulfill your promised deadline?" I ended up talking a lot about the company culture/onboarding which made me excited for the next round! I then had a 24 hour challenge, as others have mentioned, with an excel challenge for data analysis and one "business" case-- very similar to work I had done before, so did not find it too difficult based on past work experience. The last round was a series of 3 1-hour interviews, all completed via Skype with Managers and above. These were a combination of brain teasers, 1 excel question, and more general behavioral questions. I very much appreciated that the recruiters were in constant contact with updates on my progress through the process and responded timely-- made the process a lot more transparent and took the stress off the logistics and allowed me to focus on the interviews. I also appreciated that I was invited on-site to talk with the team in person/attend a happy hour to get a feel for the office/ask questions that I had thought of that I didn't ask before, and was told I was receiving an offer then.

Welcome to the team! I'm so happy to hear you had a positive experience. Our culture is near and dear to my heart, I'm glad to hear you found it equally exciting. I'm really happy to hear that you were in contact with recruiters throughout your entire interview process. It means things are working how they're supposed to. Thank you for taking the time to interview us as much as we interviewed you. It's so important that just as we benefit from your skills and expertise, you benefit from being part of a positive growth environment. The mutual fit comes across in your review. Once again, welcome to Medallia. We're lucky to have you.

      Entrevista

After receiving feedback that I passed the final round interview, the recruiter said she just needed to check references and my transcript before giving me an offer. I was told by another Medallia employee that I basically got the job offer and that the fact checking was just a formality. Almost 3 weeks after I received this notification, I was told I would not be extended an offer. I have a feeling this was because my GPA did not match their standards, which was absurd as I had clearly stated my GPA in my resume before the interview process started and I still made it past all of the interview rounds (including the Challenge). I asked my references how their talks with Medallia went, and I was informed that the recruiter grilled my reference on the reason for my low GPA, which was unprofessional and unnecessary. I am disappointed in this process as I was looking forward to working for this company for the months that it took to complete the interview process. I feel I am qualified to be hired as I made it through all of the interview rounds, and I can't believe I did not get an offer because of something like my GPA that could have easily been addressed in the beginning. I sincerely hope that no one else has an experience similar to mine. The recruiter was wonderful and the employees are all amazing, but I am still in shock as to the unprofessional manner of this process. My friend had a similar experience interviewing with Medallia a few months ago and she was heartbroken over the process as well. I would hate to see a great company's reputation become tarnished over something such as unprofessional recruiting practices.

Standard behavioral questions - small case was to describe how I would go about addressing a survey response rate problem for a major hotel chain.

I know we just spoke about this on the phone but I wanted to address it in writing as well. I really appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback and, once again, I am deeply sorry you had this experience. Reference checks are in no way a formality at Medallia, and I sincerely regret that you were told otherwise. They are an integral part to our decision making process, especially when we're deciding between strong candidates. Your GPA was not the deciding factor in this decision: we do look for context around GPA but it's never the primary decision maker one way or the other. Let me know if you have any additional feedback, and I apologize again for this experience.
