A total waste of time!
I applied via Angel List and was invited for a video interview a few days later.
The video interview would take place via Hireflix, because "asynchronous communication" was "huge" for a remote company.
Hireflix lets recruiters upload question videos. As an applicant, you get to start the so-called interview and you can indicate when you are done answering a question and the next question can be started, but you have no further control over the playback. So no pause, no re-play.
Each question video from Microverse was done by a different team member. The first video starts off with the interviewer with their backs to the camera, then swirling around to "shoot" the question at you...
Almost without exception, the sound quality on all of these videos was beyond poor. Most questions were barely audible. And that is with noise-cancelling headphones on, so I would not be distracted by any sounds in my own environment.
I have worked with many remote teams, including non-tech team members, but have never had such poor audio.
The entire process is based on the flawed idea that interviews are a one-way street, meant solely to provide information to the recruiter, not to candidate.
The process design and the poor execution on the side of the company, however, do speak volumes about corporate culture and made this a waste of time.
